It will likely come as no surprise that Japanese culture places great emphasis on the sea, long a source of both nourishment and wonder to the people of this island nation.

Each year, that emphasis manifests in the celebration of Marine Day (or Umi no Hi), when people visit beaches and aquariums to take advantage of all the sea offers.
