Ohitsu Rice Warmer

An ohitsu is a traditional Japanese rice warmer designed to complement a rice pot or pan. It is said that the most delicious rice is steamed in a cast iron pot, then transferred to an ohitsu to absorb the leftover moisture. This traditional ohitsu is hand made from Sawara wood, a soft, lightweight Cypress with excellent water resistance and a fresh woodsy fragrance. Sawara also has natural antibacterial properties, making it a naturally food-safe material to make rice. To use, simple spoon freshly steamed rice into the Ohitsu Rice Warmer, close the lid, and let sit for five to ten minutes. The Sawara wood naturally absorbs moisture, retaining heat and keeping your rice warm and delicious throughout the meal.
