In the early 20th century, the country of Japan planted large swathes of cedar and cypress trees to help increase their domestic timber industry. Unfortunately, these non-native varieties made it difficult for native deciduous trees to grow reducing food sources for wildlife and increasing the chance of landslides in the process. Today, Tsukihoshi repurposes these trees into beautiful objects that take on a second life in the city.
